Camps

At OWP, we want all children to feel safe, comfortable, and excited to grow. In order to help facilitate a smooth transition from home to school, we have carefully developed a process to ease the adjustment for your child. We would love all students and campers to benefit from this process. Our one day and one week camps are unfortunately too short for a proper phase-in program. Accordingly, if this is your child's first school experience, we encourage you to consider enrolling for our summer camp or applying to our preschool.

All of our camps include a welcoming introduction at the beginning of the day, so that students can get to know classmates and friends both new and old. Campers bring lunch and receive snack, and we make sure to include a nap each day, depending on age. In addition to our themed activities, we spend a large portion of each day outside in our outdoor learning spaces or a nearby playground. For camps longer than one day, every Friday is a party!

A sample daily schedule might look something like this:

  • Arrival and ¡Bienvenida!

  • Outside Playing and Learning

  • Círculo

  • Community Snack

  • Inside Learning and Playing

  • Wrap up

  • Dismissal

Note: One World Project camps are open to both current families and families who are new to OWP.  No previous knowledge of Spanish is necessary for camp. Children ages 2-10 are eligible for all our camps, and our ¡Hola Summer! program is also open to infants and toddlers, beginning at 6 months of age.

Upcoming Camps:

taller de arte global ~ mid winter break camp

Week-long Camp: Feb 17-21

Please join us for OWP’s Global Artist Workshop, a week-long camp over February break (February 17 to February 21). Throughout the week, we will be learning about an incredible line up of visual artists from near and far.

Each day, campers will be introduced to an artist, learning about their life, medium and artistic techniques. We'll be creating with clay, making collages, painting, experimenting with photography, working with textiles, building upcycle sculptures, and practicing Spanish.

seeds and chefs ~ Spring break Camp

Week-long Camp: April 14-18

What are your children doing for Spring Recess? At OWP we will be digging in dirt, planting veggies, testing recipes, and practicing Spanish as part of our Seeds & Chefs camp.

Our garden will be back and ready for action after a long winter, and we can’t wait to share it with  you. We are so excited to spend time in nature, and we can’t wait to see what surprises are in store. Campers will learn more about where their food comes from, who and what helps it grow, and how it gets from the garden to our plates.

Construye y arregla

One-day Camp: June 5

Our last one-day camp of the year will be focused on building! We’ll follow our imaginations wherever they take us, and explore different styles and methods to construct and build. We’ll talk about different kinds of buildings, different tools to help us make them, and get plenty of hands-on experience. We'll also talk about the idea of sustainability, and the impact we can have on the world around us! Developing the skills to fix and build gives us the chance to give old materials a new life, to reduce the things we use and the things we throw away, and thus to deepen our connection with the environment.

Join us as we develop and improve our fine motor skills, push the limits of our creativity, and MAKE something of our very own (while practicing lots of Spanish, of course!)

!Hola! Summer CAmp

Hola Summer is a way for campers to learn about our teachers’ home countries without leaving Brooklyn.  Each day will include art, music, and games inspired by our destinations.

This year we will be exploring:

  • El Salvador: July 7 - July 18

  • Ecuador: July 21 - August 1

We are so grateful for our spectacular teachers from these countries, who will share their experiences, ideas, and traditions as we learn more about the incredible diversity in the Spanish-speaking world. Sample activities might include preparing and tasting traditional recipes from these places, studying and making art and music from the region, and visiting with guest artists and artisans in the community. As always, we make sure to offer ample time outdoors in our garden, in the sprinkler, or on a field trip to a nearby playground.

Families can enroll for the whole month, or for as many weeks as you wish.

Esculturas Maleables

One-day Camp: October 3

Join us for a day of tactile exploration. We will use beautiful, high quality, soothing materials to create art (all in Spanish, of course!) We’ll explore lots of different textures, surfaces, and stuff all around us, and let ourselves be inspired to make things we’ve never seen before. We can’t wait to see what surprises are in store!

El Otoño

One-day Camp: October 4

Autumn is here, and we want to learn all about it! Join us at campamento del otoño to practice our Spanish, and deepen our connection with the environment. We’ll spend lots of time outside exploring the changing seasons, letting nature be our guide as we ask all kinds of questions about the world around us: where are all the birds heading? What color are the leaves on the trees? What kinds of sounds do they make when we stomp on them? We’re so excited to find out.

rampas

One-day Camp: November 1

Our incredible ramp at the entrance to OWP was constructed after a parent in our school community who used a wheelchair was prevented from entering the building for pick-up and drop-off. Noticing the lack of accessibility, the community rallied and raised funds for the construction of a ramp so that our school could be accessible to everyone. Parents and community members who were architects, contractors, and construction workers donated their time and effort to make sure the ramp got built safely and quickly. We hope our ramp helps make everyone feel welcome at OWP.

In that spirit, please join us on Friday, November 1, for a One Day Camp exploring the Wonderful World of Ramps! We’ll be talking about accessibility, and why the ramp is meaningful to our community. We will also have time to explore our ramp, do some ramp building, and even conduct our own physics experiments.

Títeres (Puppets)

One-day Camp: January 29

At One World Project, we strive to celebrate diversity in all its forms. In this one-day camp, we’ll use puppets to highlight both our own beautiful selves, as well as the incredible differences that we find in our classrooms and throughout our lives each day. We’ll spend time creating self-portraits and designing puppets in our own image, uplifting all the different things about the ways we are, and the ways we see ourselves. Come join us as we get to know one another through art and our imagination!
