OWP Youth Council
One World Project’s Youth Council is an opportunity for young people who are passionate about education and committed to making a difference in their community to gain experience with the ins and outs of OWP, helping us to nurture and expand our Welcoming Community of Learners.
The purpose of this program is to bring together talented youth from across the city, weaving together new ideas and infusing OWP with the perspective of the next generation of leaders, organizers, and activists. We ask our council members to possess excellent communication skills, and to be committed to OWP’s mission. We are looking for a team players who are comfortable taking risks, working hard, and being vulnerable.
Our goal is to provide hands-on experience for young people interested in OWP’s educational and organizational approach, while creating a shared space in which we can grow and learn from one another. We know that each of us has something unique to offer — from students and their families, to teachers and young adults like you — and that when we are working all together, we can create the community that we want to see for each other.
There will be opportunities to develop and implement community events, to create content for OWP's website and social media, become an OWP ambassador to assist families in need of financial support, and raise awareness of OWP's priorities and financial needs with government officials and supporters. Should you be interested, we can also teach you how to write fundraising proposals. In short, you will learn how to run a nonprofit organization and discover new ways of affecting change within your communities.
A position on the Youth Council is a volunteer role, and we ask for a minimum of 3 hours per week. Responsibilities and schedules can be flexible, tailored to everybody’s individual interests and needs — we want to hear your ideas, and we will work with you to ensure that this experience can be as meaningful as possible.
We invite all those between the ages of 14-22 to apply! Given the responsibilities of the position and the investment from OWP, we ask that applicants commit to a 6-month minimum stay on the council, with the possibility of extending that term afterwards. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a letter of reference which outlines individual contributions, achievements, and role, which can be used for college applications and/or job interviews.
The application can be found here, and the deadline is currently rolling.
