All One World Project staff and faculty are fully bilingual in Spanish – able to teach in Spanish, write lessons in Spanish, and participate in faculty meetings entirely in Spanish.
Hiring Process

Spanish-Immersion Afternoon Assistant Teacher (PT)
One World Project (oneworldproject.org) is a Spanish-immersion community center in the Windsor Terrace neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. We nurture global citizenship and environmental stewardship, through our Spanish-immersion preschool, after school, camps, Saturday playgroups, parenting education, and community events. We believe education is transformative. Our learning community is a mix of Spanish-dominant, English-dominant, and bilingual families. Our teachers are fluent in Spanish and many are heritage Spanish speakers.
The Afternoon Assistant Teacher works with other faculty and staff to implement our after-school program with students ages 2-9. Assistant Teachers have a mix of responsibilities – leading activities, planning with other teachers, picking up students from local schools, interacting with parents during dismissal. The position also offers opportunities for professional growth. The Assistant Teacher receives support from the Education Director and Lead Teacher to build his/her teaching skills and are also invited to participate in frequent paid professional development opportunities.

Progressive Teaching
Helping maintain an engaging and nurturing environment that ensures safety and healthy development and meets children’s needs including diapering when necessary

Curriculum & Collaboration
The Assistant Teacher reports to the Lead Teacher in his/her classroom.
With guidance from the Lead Teacher, designing units of study and lessons that are both developmentally appropriate, align with children’s interests, and connected to the OWP mission
Participating in weekly team meetings and planning efforts for the classroom that allow ample time for reflection between units of study to consider areas of improvement, discuss student observations, and incorporate opportunity in the next cycle (i.e. parent resources, new materials, possible trips)
Participating in weekly staff meetings to share ideas, best practices, and challenges that ensure a strong connection between classrooms and programs
Communication & Outreach
Building relationships with parents and the broader community that foster participation and contribute to our students’ and organization’s development
Professional Development
In collaboration with the Lead Teacher, articulating strengths, areas for improvement, and realistic goals to guide growth and reflection
Seeking and being open to regular feedback from the Lead Teacher as well as OWP’s Leadership
Actively participating in and preparing for bi-annual appraisal conversations with the Lead Teacher
Proactively seeking and engaging in relevant professional development opportunities aligned to personal and professional goals and interests, including necessary certification requirements
Thinking big regarding his/her own growth and future in the One World Project family
Qualifications
Fluent in Spanish
Proficient in English
Prior experience with children ages 2 to 8 in a school or after-school setting
Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
Proven problem-solving skills
All faculty and staff must have up-to-date vaccinations and boosters for Covid-19.
Work Towards BA/BS + Certification
OWP is eager to support talented educators as they gain experience and work toward a BA/BS and/or NYS teacher certification. OWP will connect interested qualified candidates with programs and resources within NYC to help defray costs.
Schedule
The After-School Assistant position is a part-time position:
Monday to Friday 2-5pm or 6pm
Mondays planning Zoom 11-noon
Opportunity to work during the summer program.
For teachers in education programs and/or working towards certification, we will do all we can to accommodate their school schedule.
Compensation
Compensation is hourly, and it is based on experience and background. Range is $15-25 per hour.

Preschool Assistant Teacher

Our teachers and staff are bilingual; and many are heritage Spanish speakers. Because of our small scale, we are able to understand one another and collaborate in authentic, productive ways.
The Preschool Assistant Teacher role involves direct classroom teaching, curriculum development, and professional growth. The role blends deep understanding of early childhood education with language acquisition skills to lead Spanish-immersion programs for children ages 2 to 5.

Schedule
The Preschool Assistant Teacher is a full-time position
180 teaching days (M-Th 8-5pm; F 8-3:30)
10 summer camp days
20 professional development days
Breaks in December, February, Spring, and summer
Compensation
Salary range depending on education and experience between $38,000 and $50,000. One World Project offers a competitive benefits package, including health coverage and a 401K.
