Camps

CAMPS

We offer Camp programming on most Department of Education holidays, over February Break, Spring Recess, and 9 weeks of summer.

Camp programs are taught in Spanish and align with our mission of fostering global awareness and environmental sustainability. Our camps are led by our teaching staff of trained educators.

Summer Camp

Given the coronavirus pandemic we are making our Hola Summer Camp virtual. Hola Summer is organized as a world tour without having to leave Brooklyn.  Families are able to choose the weeks they would like to participate in camp.  Some families enroll for the whole summer while others join us for only one week.

This year we will be exploring four different Spanish speaking countries and have an additional bonus week where we will be exploring New York:

  • Ecuador: June 29 - July 10 (no camp July 3rd)

  • Mexico: July 13 - July 24

  • Puerto Rico: July 27 - August 7

  • Spain: August 10 - August 21

  • Nueva York: August 24 - August 28

Our summer journey will include:

  • Small group morning zoom (10 children: 1 OWP teacher).

  • Daily recorded learning opportunities about the country we are exploring (Mondays: geography and places, Tuesdays: art, Wednesdays: cooking, Thursdays: garden and Fridays: music and dance).

  • Access to OWP's library of recorded read alouds and content in Spanish.

  • Weekly 30 minute individual connections with a OWP teacher.

Hola Summer is open to Spanish and English speakers between the ages of 2 and 10 years old (grouped into three groups - 2 & 3 year olds, 4 & 5 year olds, and 6 to 10 year olds).

Summer Camp Enrollment and Tuition Information can be found here.

February Break Camp - Global Artist Workshop - February 17 to February 21

Join the Global Artist Workshop to learn about an array of visual artists from near and far.   Each day campers will be introduced to an artist, their medium, and art technique.  We'll be creating with clay, making collages, painting, experimenting with photography, working with textiles, and building upcycle sculptures - all in Spanish.  You can enroll for the week or by the day.

This year, we will be learning about and practicing the techniques of these incredible artists:

  • MondayJeffrey Gibson - a Choctaw-Cherokee painter and sculptor, based in Hudson, New York. He is known for his works which combine elements of traditional Native American art with contemporary artistic references.

  • TuesdayAmaia Gómez Marzabal  - an accomplished Spanish painter who investigates decorative patterns, abstractions and figures. Her practice is concerned with human relationships, social rules, emotions and her own personal development. Amaia is also an OWP teacher!

  • WednesdayTodd Heisler -  an American photojournalist and Pulitzer prize winner. He is a staff photographer for The New York Times. In September 2010, he won an Emmy as a member of the New York Times "One in 8 Million" team. We'll be inspired by Todd's recent work about children's games.  Todd is also an OWP dad!

  • ThursdayYuko Nishikawa  - a Japanese Brooklyn-based designer/contemporary ceramicist specializing in fantastical lighting, whimsical decor accessories and collectible objet d'art. With an Interior and Industrial Design background, she handcrafts one-of-a-kind lamps, chandeliers, sculptures, vases and tableware.

  • FridayMarc Andre Robinson - works in sculpture, drawing, and video that revolve around a psychology of historical, cultural, and familial belonging. His work has been presented nationally and internationally at an array of museum.  He lives and works in Brooklyn and teaches at Parsons School of Design and Columbia University.  Marc is also an OWP Dad!

March 18 - Music & Movement - we will make instruments, play music, and dance together - in Spanish. You can enroll here.

Spring Recess Camp - Seeds and Chefs - April 9 to April 17

Our Spring Recess camp is called Seeds and Chefs.  We'll be digging in dirt, planting our favorite veggies, and testing new recipes - all in Spanish.  You can enroll for the week or by the day.

June 9 - Trees Around - we will be learning about the trees in our neighborhood - all in Spanish. You can enroll here.

June 10 - El dia del agua - we will study water’s many fascinating and important characteristics, we'll do science experiments with water, make art with water, and of course if it is warm we'll get to play outside with water too. You can enroll here.
